Deputy Shear Wall Inspections
Deputy Special Inspections for wood shearwalls are required per the California Building Code (CBC) for shear wall and floor / roof diaphragms when the edge / boundary nail spacing is 4" on center or closer. This inspection is in addition to an inspection by the city or county inspector, and also the Structural Engineer.
The components of a shearwall that will need to be inspected are:
- Nail sizes, types, and spacing.
- Anchor bolts, Hold Downs, Lags, etc.
- A35's / A34’s, LTP’s, and straps.
- Lumber and Sheathing sizes and types.
- Blocking for roof / wall connections.
A Deputy Inspector doesn’t need to be on site while the work is being done, but only after the work is complete (unless installed sheathing will cover interior components of the wall).
